Cesti Competition 2017, winner mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo

22-year-old Canadian mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo wins Cesti Competition 2017. More than 170 young singers from 39 nations applied for the prestigious singing competition for Baroque opera, organized by the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music.

Innsbruck (A) –  Cesti Competition 2017. International Singing Competition for Baroque Opera Pietro Antonio Cesti. The International Singing Competition for Baroque Opera Pietro Antonio Cesti will take place in Innsbruck for the eighth time. It is named after the Italian composer Pietro Antonio Cesti, who turned Innsbruck into a centre for the Italian opera north of the Alps in the mid-17th century. Young singers from all over the world will compete in the varied field that is the baroque opera for participation in the final concert on August 27, 2017.

22-year-old Canadian mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo wins Cesti Competition 2017. The young mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo won the first prize and the audience award in the. Cesti Singing Competition in Innsbruck. Second place went to Eléonore Pancrazi from France followed by Giulia Bolcato from Italy.

More than 170 young singers from 39 nations applied for the prestigious singing competition for Baroque opera, organized by the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music. After a high quality final concert with 12 remaining competitors, Canadian mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo came out as the big winner: her passionate performance of arias by Cavalli and Handel convinced the jury and the audience.

In addition to the prize money of € 4.000, the spectators in the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium awarded her the audience prize.
The second place went to 27-year-old Frenchwoman Eléonore Pancrazi, also a mezzosoprano. 26-year-old soprano Giulia Bolcato came third.
